Remember last post? The one where I was going to put soil and mulch in my garden. Well after struggling to do it myself I finally gave in and asked a local softscape company to help me out. OMG they did a fabulous job. They even fixed the places I did and botched. I am beginning to discover that my garden is just too big for me to handle. This gardening company did say that adding soil and mulch is a really hard job because you have to be careful of the plants. But once it is in it will make my life so much easier. I didn't know you are supposed to have 3-4 inches of mulch. Also I don't need the newspaper if I spread the mulch thick enough. This gardening company is really good. They have answered all my stupid gardening questions and explained to me why my garden was failing. It was because I didn't water enough. Little did I know that a hard rain or thunderstorm doesn't water my plants it just runs off. I also didn't know that my garden needs a deep water as soon as the snow melts in April. Snow melt doesn't water the garden. It runs off because the ground is frozen.
On the sewing front I am happily sewing another quilt top. I believe I am a person who rather piece than quilt. So far I have lots of tops that just need quilting but I always put them aside to start another quilt top. Maybe I should just suck it up and send them to a person to long arm. To tell you the truth I am scared to send them out because I am sure the long armer will criticize my skill. Yes I have puckers. I never said I was a skilled quilter. I have read that lots of steam will tame them. When I have the courage to face them I will let you know if the steam worked.

Gardening not sewing
Yesterday I had one bag of soil and one bag of mulch delivered.
Gardening season has began. I am taking risk starting so early. Usually we have snow up to and including the long weekend in May (third weekend). I've looked at the weather and it says it will be warm for the next 14 days. But that can change in a heart beat. If I get caught in the snow then at least it will be some moisture. I am trying something new this year to control the weeds in my flower beds. I am putting down wet newspaper in between the plants and then topping with mulch. I am told that the weeds won't grow under the newspaper and then the newspaper will just decompose and I can turn it into my soil in the fall. Here is hoping that it works. Have a great weekend.
